At present, there are numerous degrees, diplomas and certificate courses which can be acquired through distance learning. The E learning courses really helped those who don't want to continue their regular studies and leave their school. But what happens to the newly retired phone? Does it join a host of similar discarded cellular devices in a rubbish drawer? Does the newly retired phone just get tossed in the trash bin? All too often this is exactly what happens to old mobile handsets. Further awareness is needed in the UK on mobile phone recycling, and education regarding exactly how easy it is to recycle these devices. By doing so, the consumer helps the environment and can even help their fellow countrymen. Various popular gadgets and applications used by society at large are being transformed into elearning tools that truly appeal to hi tech sensibilities of people, both young and old, in all parts of the world. In fact, a research project based on the idea of using technology in a learning environment was conducted in London wherein 30 secondary school students were supplied with iPhones with the objectives of determining and understanding how mobile devices can be applied to or facilitate learning. In this study, the students used the phones during their classes for a period of seven months. We should be careful not to assume that we will be porting "eLearning courses" to mobile device format. mLearning is not simply eLearning on a mobile device. We need to design *for* the mobile devices taking into account function and context. When eLearning first appeared we tried to emulate in-person ILT online. Not a good idea. With mLearning we must avoid trying to recreate standard eLearning on a mobile device. It has different characteristics, different context and has possibilities that go beyond simple mobile "courses."Paulhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11870727740183721181noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4290725614854271189.post-79779562033118726312009-05-28T23:20:58.041-07:002009-05-28T23:20:58.041-07:00Also we have to keep in mind the target devices fo...Also we have to keep in mind the target devices for which we are creating the course, if possible.
I think using fixed layout against fluid layout is suited for Mobile devices.amarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11994542979982489127noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4290725614854271189.post-33397802435595650392008-11-07T07:12:00.000-08:002008-11-07T07:12:00.000-08:00A couple of comments on your thoughtful and useful...A couple of comments on your thoughtful and useful guidelines for mobile learning:

Typically, mobile learning is not about trying to put a course on a mobile phone (though there is one example of it working). It's more a performance support model. Your guidelines are still relevant here...

Second, not putting labels into graphics is contrary to the research John Sweller's done on cognitive load theory. Need to find a way to not add to cognitive load. Interesting challenge. I do it, but only as a reminder, not as the original presentation...Clarkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07822235162664957878noreply@blogger.com
